Lifestyle Blogging at It's Finest

Lifestyle blogging. What is it you ask? Well, aside from being basically self-explanatory--writing about your lifestyle--it's a blog that focuses on the habits, attitudes, tastes, moral standards, economic level, etc., that together constitute a mode of living. Anyway, that's what Websters says. Whatever.

Lifestyle. I'm sure most picture the Starbucks-sippin, i-Phone-talkin, accessorized-living room-havin, New Balance-wearin, Crate&Barrel-shoppin folks. And while I guess that is a "lifestyle," it's really more of a media-influenced stereotype. A pretty vanilla one at that.

Moving on. Fortunately or unfortunately, many bloggers out there use their blogs to talk about their lifestyles...or bitch about the lifestyles of others. Way more truthful than the media stereotypes. And more interesting, too.

If you've spent event a scant amount of time riffling the internets, you're bound to bump into scads of "lifestyle" blogs. Well at least I do. So, here are a smattering that I rooted out this weekend...enjoy.
  • Internetismyonlyfriend.com - I can totally relate (sorry, that was my lame attempt to gain a little sympathy -- I really do have a friend or two that are not made of interconnected tubes). Sidenote: Oddly, ismyonlyfriend.com is a conglomerate of blogs that includes hollywood, mycomputer (again, I can sorta relate...yikes), and *depressingly* alcohol (even more depressing--but not surprising--there are only 3 posts at alcohol)
  • Perpetual Memory Loss - While we're on the subject of alcohol (don't ask, I'm not a heavy drinker but I do know a few), PML delves into an NYC grad student's drunken outtings and other hobbies
  • Dee's Art of Life - A young Maylasian woman's public diary. Dee talks in big, long paragraphs about her life including fasting, fashion and photoshoots. Plus she seems to really like classical music (if you, too, are a fan, be sure to grab your headphones). Don't you enjoy reading about real people's lives? Especially when they live on the other side of the planet. A very interesting read indeed.
  • Go Fug Yourself - If you're a celebrity hound, you'll enjoy checking out Fug's snicker-filled, biting posts about the poor choices of the famous and infamous: clothes, hair, makeup, dates...you name it, it gets critiqued. What fun! As long as you're not one of her victims.
  • Sportable - Where sports are a lifestyle. 'Nuf said.

5 Blogs Not to Miss

I'm addicted to blogs. Not my own--I've got this one plus one other: Girlpaint - a beauty-related blog I started in '06...I've sorta lost interest. Not in beauty. Just posting.

I can't seem to get enough of other peoples blogs (OPB...wasn't that a song?). Anyway, I coast, cruise, peruse, lurk, comb, cull the internets and, though I find much fodder for the waste bin, I also find a number of gems.

Whether the blogs I like are mildly informative (whoa, lookout!), incredibly informative (to me, anyway) or just downright entertaining (yuk, yuk, yuk), I can't seem to stop seeking out--and finding-- some good stuff out there.

Here are a few I stumbled across this weekend (sad, this IS how I spend my weekends, holiday or no):

  • Zombie Economy Zombie represents the American masses who overconsume, waste, and really, really like it
  • Stuff White People Like Similar to Zombie, White People waxes poetic about the Ivy League, Starbucks-addicted, Target-obsessed, Obama-lovin' crowd
  • YesButNoButYes Claims to be The Greatest Pop Culture Blog on The Planet or Maybe Not. I concur...or not
  • remarkable communication Well, who couldn't use some pointers from them?
  • PureBlogging The name alone says it's worth a looksee, no?

God bless the Bloggers. For they shall inherit the earth.
